Career services

We are currently working to establish a network of TAFE Jobs and Skills Centres throughout Western Australia. As we complete this work, career services may be provided by Jobs and Skills Centres, Career Centres or Aboriginal Workforce Development Centres.

These services provide free and independent training information and career guidance. They can assist with information on education and training courses, career pathway options and the career planning process.

Educational institutions – schools, colleges and universities

Schools, colleges and universities usually have trained staff who can assist you with career advice and support. Contact the relevant educational institution and ask to speak with the career services staff.

Centrelink is the gateway to a range of services available to jobseekers including referral to Job Services Australia and Employment Service Providers to access job vacancies. Centrelink has many self service options via internet and phone. For further information visit or phone 13 28 50.

Job search facilities in Centrelink Customer Service Centres consist of self-service PCs and printers for all job seekers. These facilities are available in the public contact area of Centrelink Customer Service Centre’s to help job seekers identify employment opportunities and to make contact with service providers who may be able to help them in various aspects of their search for work.

Facilities include:

• self-service PCs and printers;
• information on employment service providers;
• comprehensive job guides and job database;
• a wide variety of information pamphlets and brochures; and
• career and job search information.

Note: All services may not be available in every Customer Service Centre.

Staff at Centrelink can also assess your eligibility for unemployment benefits, job search support and other allowances. See your nearest Centrelink for details.

5 Apprenticeships/traineeships

​The Department of Training and Workforce Development's Apprenticeship Office (formerly ApprentiCentre) administers training contracts and regulates the apprenticeship system in Western Australia. ​

The Apprenticeship Office also has a compliance role that includes audits on training plans, assessments on employers' suitability to train their apprentice(s), and ensuring that regulatory requirements are maintained across the apprenticeship/traineeship system. The Apprenticeship Office also provides a dispute resolution service for employers and apprentices/trainees where disagreement may arise under the training contract.

Wageline can give you information on State workplace law, including:

• rates of pay;
• conditions of employment; and
• workplace awards and agreements.
